About Donna Riseley


Donna Riseley Counselling & Clinical Psychologist has owned and managed her own full time private practice in Adelaide South Australia for over 28 years. She has been a registered psychologist in South Australia since 1985. She is registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and is endorsed by that body in two specialities:Clinical Psychology and Counselling Psychology. She is also a Psychology Board of Australia endorsed supervisor.


Over the last 28 years, Donna has seen a large number and range of clients including private, work cover and road accident victims. She has treated problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma resulting from accidents and from abuse, phobias, weight issues, relationship problems, infertility problems, work related stress and chronic pain. Since being in private practice she has had several consultant positions.  


From 1985 – 1990 she was  a consultant to the Pain Management Unit then located at Memorial Hospital North Adelaide and  from 1986 – 1999 she was a consultant to The Adelaide Menopause Clinic.  She has also provided counselling services to a Fertility Clinic located at The Wakefield Street Hospital.  In addition to continuing to work fron her near City practice located at Eastwood SA, she consulted one day a fortnight in a country GP practice for 3 years; and subsequently, in the country working from other professional rooms for another 6 years.  From 2008 to 2016 Donna was a Member of the Preferred Panel of Clinical Psychologists in the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) coordinated from GP Partners Australia in Adelaide South Australia. This programme came to an end in 2016.
 
Donna has trained additionally as a career counsellor and is very experienced in vocational assessments. She has assessed a large number of private clients and clients who require such an assessment for legal purposes.
 
Prior to being in private practice,  Donna completed a degree majoring in Psychology at the University of Adelaide. She then completed a post graduate degree in Social Administration at Flinders University in South Australia qualifying as a social worker.  She worked for over seven years as a psychiatric social worker working at Glenside Hospital, the Flinders Medical Centre, the (then) Adelaide Children’s' Hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital.  She qualified further as a psychologist completing a post graduate diploma at the Flinders University. She worked as a trainee psychologist for three years at the Flinders University Health and Counselling Service prior to gaining her registration.
 
She is currently a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and a full member of the Specialist College of Clinical Psychologists and the Specialist College of Counselling Psychologsits of that society.  She is also a  Medicare Specialist provider in Clinical Psychology.

Over her 30 years of working as a therapist, Donna has trained also in analytic psychotherapy techniques as well as in the standard psychological techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  She has also undertaken substantial training in group work and has established and run therapeutic groups in her practice. She has treated a large number of individuals, couples and families bringing a wealth of experience and training to her work.
 
In September 2010, Donna was appointed to sit on the South Australian Health Practitioners' Tribunal as one of the representatives of the psychology profession.  She as re-appointed to this position in 2013 and in 2016.
